The Diencephalon

The last part of the forebrain is called the diencephalon. It’s made up of the thalamus and the hypothalamus. The thalamus is the “relay station” and the distribution centre for sensation from the body to the cortex. The hypothalamus is responsible for certain basic bodily functions such as the involuntary control of your heart rate, body temperature and fluid balance. It also plays a role in emotional control.
